    How Vantomask works

    The two directions

    Mask takes the text you are about to send and replaces every term in your dictionary with its placeholder, so you can paste the result into a chat. Unmask takes the reply back from that chat and puts your real terms back where the placeholders are.

    The dictionary

    The dictionary is the whole of what this tool knows. Each entry pairs a term with a placeholder, and can be set to match case, to match only whole words, or to be switched off without being deleted. Nothing is masked that is not in it.

    Open it from Dictionary in the bar. Terms can also be added from the masked text: select something that is still in the clear, or use the button beside the analysis line to take everything it found at once.

    What the highlighting means

    A tinted mark is a replacement that was made — hover it to see the term it covers. A red underline is a shape the built-in analysis thinks looks sensitive and that no rule covered. That analysis is heuristic and best-effort: it can miss things, and the absence of a mark is not an assurance that the text is clean. Reviewing the text before you share it stays with you.

    Where your data lives

    Everything happens in this browser. The text you paste is never stored and never leaves the page. The dictionary is saved in this browser only, on this device — nothing is synced, and there is no account to sign in to. Move it elsewhere by exporting the JSON file, which names exactly the terms you consider confidential and deserves the same care as the text it protects.

    Profiles

    One profile per browser for now. Its name is edited in the dictionary panel and shown in the bar, and it names the file an export writes.

    Preview version

    What this is

    This is a preview of Vantomask. Everything the tool does today it does in this browser: the text you paste is never uploaded, the dictionary is saved on this device only, and there is no server to sign in to. The About, Disclaimer and Privacy pages are not written yet — this note stands in for all three.

    Accounts are coming

    Vantomask will offer user accounts, built on anonymous, client-side encrypted profiles — for maximum privacy. An account will let you carry your dictionary between browsers and devices without giving up what makes the tool safe to paste into: your profile is encrypted in your browser, before it is sent, and the key stays with you. What is stored is ciphertext that names nobody.

    That is the whole point of the design. Your dictionary lists exactly the terms you consider confidential, so it deserves the same protection as the text it was made to protect — and the only way to promise that is to make the account unable to read it.

    Until then

    Nothing is synced. If you want your dictionary somewhere else, export the JSON file from the dictionary panel and import it there. Clearing this browser's site data clears the dictionary with it.

    What to look for

    Detection is best-effort. Turning something off here changes only what is pointed out — it never changes the text, which is masked by your dictionary and by nothing else.
